A horse that I met when I was solo travelling in Türkiye. I had just arrived in Kapadocya which I decided to go to on a whim. Growing up in Australia and being only exposed to the Aussie outback, I was at a loss for words to see the beauty of the Turkish landscape when I arrived.
After settling in and exploring the town of Göreme, meeting the locals and taking in the sights, I decided to spend my day hiking and experiencing the nature. I prepared and walked north from the town until I reached a small stable. There I saw this beautiful horse, it approached me and allowed me to take its portrait. A short moment. I said goodbye and continued on my little journey.

I walked through ravines, up an over hills and got a bit lost a few times.
I came across a man running his little cafe in the middle of the ravine in the Rose Valley. Divided by language but still he offered me a tea and had many books free to take. I sat and watched my surroundings for a little bit then decided to continue on.
I eventually reached a peak where I had the view of the entire valley. Stunned in awe, I could do nothing else but sit, meditate and watch the sun start to set.
After having this experience I now decide to spend as much time in nature as I can and remember all the fine times I’ve had throughout my time on this rock in space.
Aurora, my Avó arrived in Australia in the 1980’s from Portugal. She is a seamstress and learned how to get by in Portugal and Australia by making clothes.
My Avós, mother and her brother were the only ones in my family who decided to take that leap of faith and leave their country to come to Australia. I still have members of my family struggling to get by and survive up in the villages of Portugal.
I continued on exploring the landscape and nature of Kapadokya.
As I walked I could only pray and be in awe of my surroundings. As I walked I came across ancient homes and churches left behind from the people who lived in this valley thousands of years ago.
A certain kind of feeling and power that comes as you walk through and feel the history and the things they left behind.
